Candlemakers of Edinburgh 500th Anniversary Dinner

Last night, the Incorporation of Candlemakers of Edinburgh gave a gala dinner to celebrate their 500th anniversary in the  Council Chamber of Edinburgh City Council, with the Lord and Lady Provost of Edinburgh, and the Masters of the Worshipful Companies of Wax Chandlers and of Tallow-Chandlers of London. Among the other guests were Dr Beverly Bergman, Chairman of the Heraldry Society of Scotland, as well as Snawdoun Herald and Unicorn Pursuivant who introduced the company to the newly-granted coat of arms, presented to the Incorporation earlier in the week by the Lord Lyon. Unicorn explained that the arms anciently used by the Incorporation had actually been stolen several centuries ago from the Tallow-Chandlers of London which is why he had tweaked them for the new grant, replacing the Argent panels with Ermine:

Many congratulations to two of our members who brought all this to such a fine conclusion: Deacon Ian Robertson and historian Henry Steuart Fothringham.
