HSS AGM May 30th 2015

Two splendid talks were given at the AGM in Perth: the day began with a brilliant and very amusing talk from the Lyon Macer, Roddy Macpherson, on "Robert Burns and the Guardians of Escutcheons" - this being a quotation from the Bard himself who assumed arms despite having visited the "Heralds' Office", then located in St Andrews Square. Roddy's one-liners were terrific but it would be unfair to repeat them here in case other people have the chance to hear him. Next up was Leslie Hodgson FHSS who has provided us with such a wonderful range of publications for our heraldic visits. Today's fascinating talk laid out Leslie's research into the Scottish heraldic playing-card set printed in Edinburgh in 1691 of which he has painstakingly sourced copies all over the world. One of his links was to the set owned by the University of St Andrews: Playing Cards
